Energy Bee engineer fixing solar panels to a roof

For homes

Solar Panel Installers in Newcastle, Gateshead and the North East

Solar panels generate electricity on your roof while it is light, and a home battery stores whatever you do not use at the time. It suits any homeowner who wants to buy less electricity, and it works particularly well for households that use most of their power in the evening. We survey the roof, check the shading through the day and size the system around how your household actually uses electricity rather than around the largest array the roof could physically hold. You get a written quote showing the expected generation, the share you would use yourself and what you could earn from exports.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Free survey

We check the roof orientation, pitch, condition and shading, look at your consumption and agree where the inverter and any battery would go.

  2. Step 2

    Design and quote

We size the array and the battery around your usage, model the expected generation and set out the cost, the savings basis and the export position in writing.

  3. Step 3

    Installation

Scaffolding goes up, the panels, inverter and battery are fitted and commissioned, and the system is registered with your network operator.

  4. Step 4

    Aftercare

We set up monitoring with you, help you apply for a Smart Export Guarantee tariff, and leave the certificates and warranty paperwork.

Benefits

Use more of your own power

Electricity generated and used in the house is electricity you do not buy, which is where most of the saving on a domestic system comes from.

Store it for when you need it

A battery moves daytime generation into the evening peak, when the household is home and using the most electricity.

Earn from exports

What you do export can be paid for through a Smart Export Guarantee tariff from your supplier, so surplus generation is not wasted.

Already have solar panels?

Add a battery to your existing solar

If your panels are already generating, a battery is usually the next step. It holds what the roof produces during the day so you use it in the evening instead of exporting it and buying it back later at a higher rate.

  • We check the existing inverter, the array size and how much you currently export before recommending anything.
  • An AC coupled battery sits alongside the system you already have, so the panels and inverter stay exactly as they are.
  • The battery stores daytime generation you would otherwise export and releases it through the evening.
  • On a time of use tariff it can also charge from the grid during the cheap overnight window.

Is it right for my property?

  • The roof faces somewhere between east and west, with south facing giving the highest output.
  • There is limited shading from chimneys, trees and neighbouring buildings through the middle of the day.
  • The roof covering is sound and has enough remaining life, so panels are not fitted over a roof due for replacement.
  • There is space for the inverter and, if you want one, a battery, commonly in a loft, garage or utility area.
  • You use a reasonable amount of electricity at home, or plan to with a heat pump or an electric vehicle.
  • Flat roofs, outbuildings and garden arrays can all work where the roof itself is not suitable.

Costs and funding

Every project is priced from the survey, so you get a written quote for your own property rather than a headline figure.

Funding changes what a project costs you. Check energy grants and funding.

    Frequently asked questions

Is solar worth it in the North East?

Yes. Panels generate from daylight rather than direct sun, so output in the North East is lower than the south of England but still worthwhile. What matters more is how much of the generation you use yourself, which is why we size the system around your household consumption.

How many solar panels do I need?

That depends on how much electricity you use, not on how many panels fit. We look at your annual consumption and your daily pattern, then size the array so most of the generation is used in the house. A typical family home uses somewhere around ten to fourteen panels.

Do I need a battery with solar panels?

No, solar works without one. A battery raises the share of your own generation you actually use, which matters most if the house is empty during the day. If you are home during daylight hours and use power then, panels alone may already cover a good share.
